16 March to 17 March - Pheasant's Peak - Camp

Walk Coordinator(s): Lynne Evans and Phillip Kendall
Meet: 11:00
Waratah Gully Campground

Grade: Moderate
Distance: 9 km
Description: Note: Grading is moderate with a few harder bits.
Terrain: Park roads, fire trails, forest ridges and rocky slopes.
This is a weekend camp in South East Forests National Park (Coolangubra Section) based at Waratah Gully Campground which is about 1¼ hours driving time from Pambula. Head west from South Pambula along the Mt Daragh Road to Cathcart where you turn left. The  campground is about 20 km south of Cathcart via Coolangubra Forest Way and then 1 km  east along Wog Way and is well signposted. From Cathcart, the road is good but unsealed.
Arrival time is flexible from late morning on. After setting up camp and lunch there is a drive and short walk at Myanba Gorge which will involve some scambling along the rocky creek if the water level is low enough.
The Sunday walk will start from the campground about 10:00 am after packing up and could alternatively be done as a day walk for those not wishing to stay overnight. It will be a circular walk which includes easy walking for much of the distance but some moderate cross-country walking across creek valleys and along forested ridges where long trousers or gaiters would be an advantage. There is a short but steep rocky section to negotiate on Pheasant's Peak, which is more difficult, but exploring the granite tors is worth the effort.
Bring plenty of water in case of a warm day, plus lunch.
The campground is free and has basic facilities (pit toilet and shared fireplaces) and is suitable for camper vans/camper trailers as well as tents. You will need to bring drinking water and maybe some firewood. Being in the tablelands, it can get cool some nights even at this time of the year.

Thanks Lyn or Phil!!
