4 August - Snowshoe-ing Kosciusko N.P. from Perisher - Daytrip - CANCELLED due to weather conditions

Walk Coordinator(s): Len Gazzard and Robyn Hanrahan
Meet: 09:00 - Bega Valley or possibly Cooma. Discuss with Len and Robyn. Expecting to leave Bega Valley ~7am and return about 7pm.
Grade: Moderate - NB revised grading!
Description: Please notify Len and Robyn of your attendance by 28 July as we will need to arrange snowshoe hire and car pooling. Current estimate of snowshoe hire cost $30. Ordinary cars are required by NSW Roads and Maritime Services (aka RTA) to carry chains (possibly 4WDs also, depending on conditions - hire approx. $15) . Parks winter car permit required for Kosciusko ($27 per car or annual pass valid for Kosciusko).  You will need to bring gear to cope with serious snow conditions, even if conditions appear good. Expected tour will be about 4-5 hours.

For those bushwalkers interested in the snowshoeing could you please contact Robyn at robynh50@yahoo.com.au
Snowshoeing is easy and just like walking so anyone can do it.

We will meet in Cooma outside Rhythm Sports in Sharp St at 9.00 o'clock where we will pick up our snowshoes and poles - the cost for both is $35.  Hopefully we can organise vehicles prior to the day and drive to Perisher (apparently 4WD's do not need snow chains).  The usual park fees apply to vehicles entering the National Park.  If the carpark at Perisher is full we will park along the road and pick up a shuttle bus.  The snowshoes are light to carry and not as awkward as carrying skies.

What you need:
1. Your normal hiking boots (waterproof) - these are strapped into the showshoe.
2. Waterproof overpants, parka, hat and gloves.  Clothing in layers is advisable as you may become warm.
3. Your daypack with morning tea, lunch and a warm drink as well as water.  Also a good excuse to bring chocolate!!!

Where are we going:
On the opposite side of the road to the Perisher ski lifts.
